The Itchy and Scratchy Show!
Sep. 4th, 2002 01:02 amI went to Scranton, Pennsylvania (or as we say "Scraaaaaaaanton"), a 6+ hour trip, with some friends for one of their parents' anniversary/Labor Day party. This would not have been too much of a problem except for the fact that I woke up Friday morning allergic to ... something. Blotches all over, hives up and down, itching extremities, the whole thing. No breathing problems, thank goodness, but no idea where it came from.
It wasn't too bad that day so I went on the trip anyway, controlling it a bit with Benedryl pills and spray. But it soon was just barely bearable -- any pressure on my skin (shoulder straps, rubbing, leaning on chair arms, walking) made itching welts come up so I wasn't a real bundle of fun. Not to mention the "Night of the Living Dead" blotches that came and went all over my face. *sigh*
Didn't get home till 11:30 p.m. Monday, slept a bit late, called in sick, then made a doctor's appointment. Got a shot, a course of pills to take, and a Zyrtec prescription, but still no idea what caused the whole thing. Obviously it was something I ingested since it wasn't a contact reaction, but there was absolutely nothing out of the ordinary that I ate or drank. I'll have to keep a diary for a while, see if it happens again.
So, you itching in sympathy yet? *g*

Of course, that could also be due in part to my MOSQUITO bites...the ones my legs are covered in...
*hugs Mum in sympathy*

Oh, I know how that goes.
I'm allergic to skeeter bites, and swell up all over the place whenever I have 'em. Toothpaste works to take the itch out for a short time. Ice. Olive oil. Rubbing alcohol (though that'll dry the skin out, too)... if there's a home remedy for itchy bites I haven't tried, I can't think of it.
Feel better!
