Meanwhile, back at the Circle K Beach....

hackthis noted (with justifiable astonishment), on last night's Lost, Sawyer was reading. "(He reads?!)"
Yes, he does indeed. And he not only reads, he reads Watership Down.
Now, I'm not going to rush in and assume that said novel was his own personal in-flight reading choice. Most likely, he literally stumbled over it the other night and just picked it up. But, dude! Watership Down!
Well, that certainly gives him unsuspected depths (along with the fact that he's not the wicked water hoarder). And it certainly seems a... relevent... note, given the themes of survival and social structure in the novel. A much more subtle choice, if that's what they were going for, than something like Lord of the Flies, I must say. (Though the graphic novel Battle Royale would have been both macabre and amusing.)

Date: 2004-10-21 10:57 am (UTC)I thought that perhaps last week's ep would do the homage to LOTF (what with the giant-ass boar and all...). I so wanted someone to say "Sucks to your ass-muh." And to see the boar's head on a stake!
And I LOVE how they're so paying attention to details. I wondered why the bald dude was so in awe of his toes when he was lying on the sand. NOW WE KNOW!
I'm glad I started watching this one. I've given up on ER. When it was 2 weeks after the season premiere and I hadn't watched it yet and really had no interest in watching it, I realized I was done with it. Yay for LOST! ;-)
