I got my annual review yesterday. Once again, my manager spoke to me the day before, saying, "We need to get together sometime to go over your review but I want you to know that I've already put in the paperwork for your raise so there shouldn't be any delay in your next paycheck."

Yep, sure takes the pressure off. (It's been over three years but I'm still recovering from my last job where your quarterly bonus was not getting fired.)

So we finally manage to both be free at the same time -- it's a crazy time of year for us; we're doing our financial forecast for the next fiscal year and it's a monster job -- and I find out that my raise ("merit increase") isn't quite as big as it has been the past two years.

But it's offset by the promotion I wasn't expecting and the pay increase that goes along with it.

Mr. Darcy, this is so unexpected!

My manager and her manager looked around and realized that I was essentially doing the next job up and decided to formalize the situation. Yay! Go me!

So what did I do last night?

I got my nails done and shopped for clothes.

Yes, it's clear. I am a girl.

Yep. I tend to think that if everything is how it should be, this is how you get a promotion: you prove that you can do the job well and then you get recognized and rewarded. Yay the Universe is in synch!
