So not enjoying being a girl right now.

The power of Advil compels you!
The power of Advil compels you!

Trying to console myself that at least I'm free and clear for the Revelations premiere in (ACK!) two weeks. Just picturing me on the red carpet outside the Senator....

Inside Report: So, how does it feel to see your work up on the silver screen?
Me: Oh, it's such a thri--
Ungodly voice: kill rend tear
Inside Report: Um... uh, lovely dress. Who's it by?
Me: Joana Ch--
Ungodly voice: kill rend maim
Inside Report: Next!

And I'd just stumble away making like the Heir to Slytherin with a basilisk in my pipes....

([livejournal.com profile] av_lad, stop making that face. It's your own fault for reading my journal.)

Speaking of the Senator, [livejournal.com profile] ishyko and I were there last night for an early screening of Sin City.

Let me say that again.

SIN CITY!

Wow!

Yes, it's got issues about women. It's a) a comic book and b) a comic book by Frank Miller, so you know that going in. But, my god, it's absolutely beautiful. Perfect frames and panels of action and violence and pure character.

My main beef is the structure. I think the interlocking pieces should have been in a different order. To describe it in an unspoilery manner, it goes:
  1. Josh Hartnett interlude A, unspecified time

  2. Bruce Willis story, 8 years ago

  3. Mickey Rourke story, present time

  4. Clive Owen story, present time but after Mickey Rourke story

  5. continuation of Bruce Willis story, present time but a little before the beginning of Mickey Rourke story

  6. Josh Hartnett interlude B, just after Clive Owen story

To my mind, given that the Mickey Rourke episode was simply the best acted, most satisfying emotionally, and so freaking awesomely insanely beautiful, it shouldn't have been at the beginning. Here's my timeline (if they really wanted to keep the just-barely-overlapping feel instead of mixing it up more):
  1. Josh Hartnett interlude A, unspecified time

  2. Bruce Willis story, 8 years ago

  3. Clive Owen story, present time but after Mickey Rourke story

  4. continuation of Bruce Willis story, present time but a little before the beginning of Mickey Rourke story

  5. Mickey Rourke story, present time

  6. Josh Hartnett interlude B, just after Clive Owen story

The inky blacks, the pure glowing whites, the billowing coats and creeping shadows -- oh, I just wanted to eat it up. Perhaps not the most palatable metaphor, given how much I liked just about any scene with Kevin (Elijah Wood) in it. But man oh man, the glasses and the stripe on his sweater and the book he was reading and the way he moved -- the cinematography equivalent of chocolate for me.

In related news, Clive Owen still white hot.
