Baby!Clark! Baby!Lex! Baby!Clex!
Can't deny the pull of FATE! The Kents, complete with tiny alien, in the same truck as Lionel, complete with meteor-blasted son. Aieeeee!
And Baby!Clark reaches right over and TOUCHES Baby!Lex!
I apologize to anyone in any fandom in any genre who's ever written a "they're soulmates -- they met as children but don't remember it" story. (Well, no, I don't, as there's only a handful of charming ones while so many just suck and blow, but as I am so totally captivated by the idea of seeing this in canon, I can now understand your motivations and officially cut you some slack. I'm sure you're grateful.)
Squeeeeee!

Date: 2002-10-30 11:41 am (UTC)I'm talking about what can only be termed "precious fic", wherein baby!A and baby!B meet as precocious toddlers on the playground/under the table at a party/in some incredibly contrived way, lisp a few anvilicious comments at each other, fight off a few bullies, swear to protect each other eternally, then part like ships in the night. And, we're told, the encounter profoundly shaped their emotional/mental development, even though they never learned each other's names. (Often, if names are exchanged, it's some variation on the 'normal' name, like "Bill" instead of "Fox".) Years later, when they know each other as adults, something triggers the memory and they gasp, "That was you?! I looked all over for you but could never find you again!" See, they really are soulmates, the author exults!
There's actually an astonishing number of Mulder/Scully stories like this, as well as a disturbing number of Sentinel ones. On the other hand, I'm perfectly willing to be hypocritical and say I adored the wee!Lex with the purple tricycle story someone wrote. (who was it? Slodwick? damn this swiss cheese brain!) No, actually, it's not hypocritical. I just like the good ones. *g*

Date: 2002-10-30 11:47 am (UTC)(You know, I never thought I'd have a story that could be described that way and here I am, with a 10-year old and a 16-year old doing it. Hmmmm. Why aren't I trying my hand at Harry Potter fic....)
