CNET - more publicity

We made CNET News!

Homegrown Star Wars, with big-screen magic intact

God, I'm still not recovered from the whole premiere bit and I've been working late (9 pm-ish) every night since so I can barely put two sentences together. But it was so damn amazing. Someday, when I recover, I'll post more.

Quickly -- [livejournal.com profile] jenwrites, I know exactly what you mean about the story's deficiencies. [livejournal.com profile] ishyko and I literally had to abandon it at a certain point -- long before it was ready -- to turn to costuming, logistics, actually running the production, etc. If we'd had our way, the thing would have been workshopped, the actors would have had a lot more rehearsal and input into their characters, we would have made certain conflicts explicit instead of implied -- oh, so much we would have done if we were only the writers and not doing a million and one other things all at the same time. And most of all, we would have made sure there was a lot more time for pre-production -- we were still working on the script when the camera rolled at the first shoot!

Ah, the lessons learned....

If you guys are insane enough to do this again and want a fresh set of eyeballs on the next script, please feel free to bounce it off of me. As you well know, I can nitpick like nobody's business.

But hell, you made a movie! You sold out a theater! You're getting press! And all this with a script that's 200% better than most professional films ever have.

Yeah, I keep having to remind myself -- our very first attempt!

(And it didn't involve PublishAmerica! w00t! Go, us!)

And if Dawn and I are ever so insane (and fortunate!), there will be many, many eyeballs involved, you can be sure!

[identity profile] jenwrites.livejournal.com 2005-04-21 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
But if it weren't for PublishAmerica, we wouldn't have the brilliance of Atlanta Nights (http://sfwa.org/members/TravisTea/)!

No. Nope. Nyet. Nuh-uh.

Brilliant though it is, it does not make up for the agony that was Night Travels of the Elven Vampire (http://www.livejournal.com/users/crevette/113659.html).

Nothing can make up for that.

Also, ask [livejournal.com profile] psu_jedi and [livejournal.com profile] av_lad about the episode of the Chapelle Show revealing the abuse of young padawans at the Jedi Temple....

[identity profile] jenwrites.livejournal.com 2005-04-21 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
This is true. Oy vey, does that prove that PA has no standards. But you've never seen glee like Yog bragging about Atlanta Nights.

Oh, and I did see that ep of the Chapelle show. I didn't actually find it all that funny, mostly because of the bad camp.

If these guys are insane enough to do this again . .

They'd better have the backing of a major studio - or at least a Project Greenlight type backing. [livejournal.com profile] ishyko's kids are going to have to join the military or stack up some serious scholarships to go to college now as it is!! :D

Nah, that's what financial aid is for ;) Start writing up a list of need-blind schools and hand it to the kids once they're old enough to start applying.

eee! I downloaded it this weekend and watched it. What an ambitious endeavor! Thoroughly enjoyable and impressive!

[identity profile] ladyvyola.livejournal.com 2005-04-22 01:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Glad you enjoyed it! Fans are insane, aren't they we?
