Hello, boredom, my old friend

Aaaaand now we're back to no hand luggage out of the US.

Cripes. To paraphrase [livejournal.com profile] lasayla, Hell is an eight hour flight with nothing to read but your boarding pass.

Dear [livejournal.com profile] av_lad, you better be at least as amusing as the in-flight entertainment. I'm just sayin'. (I, myself, am infinitely amusing. He has no worries on that front.)

I figure that the best way to handle it is for every single passenger to indulge in sexual fantasies for the flight. The scary grins on their faces should prompt a radical revision of the policy quickly!

What about the married passengers?

[identity profile] clanwilliam.livejournal.com 2006-08-11 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
They can have fantasies too, you know. They just have the advantage that they can (hopefully) jump the bones of the person they've been fantasising about as soon as they get within reach of a bed.

Wow, no books even? Wow.

So...either take lots of dramamine pre-trip so you sleep. Or drink lots of booze so you pass out.

No books, no magazines, not an electronic sausage.

But, as B points out, there's a good assortment of in-flight movies and radio channels so it's not a total wasteland. It's just that I'm used to reading in my downtime and the thought of not being able to makes me tense.

Sweet Geebus!!! No Dramamine for her!!!

> you better be at least as amusing as the in-flight entertainment

Ummm... I tend to be sound asleep within 30 minutes of takeoff. 8^)

On the plus side, BA has a wide range of entertainment channels. Also, who knows what the situation will be like in a week.

It's mostly just venting on my part. Because we so needed something like this a week before departure.

I'm hoping for (but not counting on) relaxed conditions Wednesday. At least we travel well together. Can you imagine flying yesterday or today with someone you were... shall we say, tempermentally at odds with?

[identity profile] av-lad.livejournal.com 2006-08-11 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I have so much to do before we leave, I'm not even thinking about it right now.

I have to agree, though, that this news was JUST what I needed to hear 1st thing in the morning yesterday. *NOT*

If things don't loosen up by next week, I don;t know how I'm going to pack everything. I was *really* counting on those extra 3 cubic feet of carry-on space. Plus, I *hate* checking my camera and laptop. BAD experiences.

As for traveling well together, THANK YOU! I agree 100%.

[identity profile] clanwilliam.livejournal.com 2006-08-11 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't bother with the laptop. I'll have two at the con, you can use one of those when I'm not. And there are plenty of computers at home.

[identity profile] av-lad.livejournal.com 2006-08-11 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
The laptop is mainly for digital photo storage. (I'm a data hound)

I need to just see what happens over the next few days. I'm really more worried about packing the camera. The laptop is pretty sturdy (and it's the office's)

[identity profile] av-lad.livejournal.com 2006-08-11 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
And, I'm perfectly aware that there are more important issues affecting people's travel than the inconvenience of having to pack electronics in hold luggage. ([livejournal.com profile] glinda_w for instance. I'm glad things are working out better for her.)

I'm lucky enough to be in a position where the worst problems I have to deal with related to air travel right now *are* convenience issues.

[identity profile] ladyvyola.livejournal.com 2006-08-11 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, god, I know! It's just inconvenience.

I'm discovering what's really keeping me off balance is NOT KNOWING. It won't be until practically the last moment that I know exactly what I can and can't do.

I can make plans but I can't DO anything.

Dammit.

It's my take-charge gene running around in circles like a chicken with its head cut off.

Hmmmm. I still have the Sith Academy Emergency Back-Up Chicken of Doom somewhere....

No! I have no room for it. Really.

You could pull a pillow book on av_lad and make a little pocket money loaning him out to your fellow travelers. Maybe use a Steven King short story.

[identity profile] av-lad.livejournal.com 2006-08-11 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Please... Don't help. 8^)

[identity profile] ladyvyola.livejournal.com 2006-08-11 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooooooo, there's a lot of skin on that boy. I could probably even manage [livejournal.com profile] astolat's "A Beautiful Lifetime Event (abridged)".

I'd have to shave him, though. That might be a deal breaker.

For me, at least.

[identity profile] av-lad.livejournal.com 2006-08-11 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I.

Hate.

You.

[identity profile] sunnys.livejournal.com 2006-08-11 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I just went to a place I'm sure [livejournal.com profile] av_lad wishes I had not... THANKS!

I think it's weird that you can't take a book.

I think a ziploc baggie, gallon size will work well for your needs.

Wow...just imagine if it was that time of the month. EVERYONE gets to see :)
