Show biz news

Well, it was an exciting week for Revelations but I got it mostly second-hand, as all of chez Vyola was vilely ill last week and I was off-line for most of it.

Tish Wells, a writer/researcher for Knight Ridder, has long been following the progress of our movie (she's a Farpoint regular) and recently interviewed a bunch of us. She warned us not to get our hopes up but was cautiously optimistic about getting the article on-line and possibly picked up by various papers.

A "Star Wars" fan film is born was carried not only on KR's own Washington Bureau, but picked up by such papers as the San Jose Mercury News, the Miami Herald, the Detriot Free Press, the Wichita Eagle, the Arizona Republic, the Contra Costa Times, the DFW Star-Telegram, and more. (There's also a companion article, No films draw fan filmmakers like "Star Wars", featuring our own dashing smuggler, Frank Hernandez.)

So, inevitably, it hit Slashdot, which led to a million and one syndicated feeds and aggregators (including MetaFilter), and a top spot on Yahoo Buzz. At this point, all publicity is good publicity, though Slashdot continues to give geeks a bad name. Nothing like listening to people who don't know what they're talking about pontificate on matters they don't understand!

Needless to say, the server crashed rather spectacularly. It's up again, thanks to some wonderful supporters. And with the gala premiere only 26 days away (eeeeek!), you can get a look at my most significant writing of the last two years:

REVELATIONS: The Official Fanzine

Check it out -- there's a ton of behind-the-scenes pictures, interviews with the cast and crew, puzzles, and assorted fun stuff.
